Mascara Monday: Kanebo Kate Mascara Base

Hello sweeties!
Today I am reviewing a mascara base from Kate.

I mentioned this one time in my best mascara for monolids post, and now I think it's time to do a in depth review about this amazing product.

Background of the Brand
Kate is a Japanese drugstore type of brand owned by Kanebo. They make excellent makeup products with fairly reasonable prices.

First Impression of the Product:
Kate Mascara Base has a very clean and sleek packaging with a white sqaure tube. The so-called mascara base is actually equivalent to mascara primer that you use before applying mascara to plump up some volume and length.

Mine is a pretty old tube. I think they changed the packaging now and it has a more transparent cap. Unfortunately, I can't find a cleaerer picture...

Like all mascara primers, the formula of this mascara base is white. However, it's got a lot more visible fibers than most lash primers in the market.

Ratings:
  • Formula & Application: 9/10
This mascara base is full of fibers and it delivers the fibers onto lashes very evenly with only one coat, and the fibers dry almost clear, unlike most primers that stays white on lashes. The wand feels standard and does the job nicely. However, it does irritate my eyes a little bit when I pack too much product on my lashes. It's probably because all the fibers. Anyway, for me that is 1 point off.

  • Lengthening: 10/10
Extremely lengthening after one coat, and it does not clump up my lashes. It has almost like a false lashes effect.

  •  Volumizing: 9/10
Very volumizing as well coz that's what lash primers should do lol.

  • Holds Curl: 9/10
It holds a very nice curl. Almost as good as some waterproof mascaras. I would actually say that it holds a better curl than Revlon Lash Potion Waterproof Mascara. Even layered with a non-waterproof mascara, it still holds the curl of my lashes perfectly.

  •   Staying Power: 10/10
Holds my curl all day. Flaking and smudging really depends on the mascara I layer onto the base.

  • Easiness to Remove: 8/10
This product is surprisingly hard to remove, no matter how many times I wash my face, I still find fibers sticking on my lashes. To fully remove the mascara base, waterproof makeup remover is necessary.

Overall Rating: 9/10

It is not perfect but it is unique and truly amazing.
I have tried lash primers from Lancome and Tarte, they both make my lashes droop immediately. But this mascara base holds curl and plumps up volume and length AT THE SAME TIME, which just blew my mind!..

I really enjoy the Kate Mascara Base, but the only downside about it is that it irritates my very sensive eyes a little bit. Plus it is pretty hard to find in North America.

But if you can find it somewhere for a reasonable price, and your eyes aren't very sensitive (I cannot even tightline because my eyes are extremely sensitive), I strongly recommend you check it out!!!

Yes for anyone who wants a lash primer that holds curl.

Before & After:
I topped Kate Mascara Base with Buxom Lash Mascara. To see reviews about just Buxom Lash Mascara alone, please click here.
bare lashes--> one coat of primer--> topped with buxom--> looking from the side

And that is it for today. I'll see you very soon. =]
If you have tried this mascara base and enjoy it as well, please thumb up for this post! =]
And if you know any other lash primer that also does a great job for you, please leave a comment below to let me know.
